Description of tasks
The successful candidate is expected to reinforce the research group in urban studies at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability, she or he will teach courses in human geography at the bachelor level and contribute to the specialization in sustainable urban and spatial planning in the master’s program in Geography.
The area of urban and regional development needs to be understood in terms of processes (material, non-material, decision-making), models (e.g., theories of urban planning), actors (residents, investors, developers and public authorities) and infrastructures (physical, environmental and social).
Candidates need to demonstrate an ability to conduct research of high quality, to obtain competitive research grants and to publish in international scholarly journals in the area of urban and regional development from a sustainability perspective. An aptitude for teaching and for supervising master’s and doctoral theses is required. Moreover, candidates need to demonstrate an interest for institutional contexts and for theoretically informed empirical research. A good command of both French and English is desirable. If French is not the native language, the ability to teach in French has to be acquired within two years of the appointment.

The appointment is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track (possibility of promotion to Associate Professor within 5-6 years).
