V International Congress on Risk

The RISCOS – Portuguese Association of Risks, Prevention and Safety, in collaboration with the Centre of Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT) and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (FLUC), is organizing the V International Congress on Risks , under the theme «Contribution of the Science for Disaster Risk Management. Acting today, protecting tomorrow «, which will take place in the city of Coimbra (Center of Portugal) between 18 and 22 of May, 2020.

Throughout all around the world and in an almost daily context we are directly confronted with disasters that threaten our survival, destroy communities or deeply affect their infrastructures, and cause serious social and psychological traumas.

Recognizing the increasing impact of crises and their complexity in vast areas of the globe, disaster risk reduction and building more resilient societies are targets of the Sendai Framework 2015-2030.

In these circumstances, the convergence of knowledge and science, whether theoretical, applied or technological, as well as entities and partners, whose theoretical knowledge and technical experience contribute to identify, characterize and evaluate methodically the natural, anthropic and mixed risks, which influencing the safety of communities, becomes an important added value. In fact, this knowledge allows for foresee of the possible consequences of the risk manifestation and thereby reduce the resulting losses, which are intended to be analyzed with the realization of this Fifth Congress.

Like the previous Congresses, the themes of the different panels are diversified, allowing to approach the generality of the risks and their manifestations, around the central theme «Contribution of the Science for Disaster Risk Management«, an area that allows to cover the most varied areas of scientific knowledge, we invite you to participate in this Congress, to letting us know and discuss the research and studies that you have been or are carrying out about risks and their manifestations, presenting a communication or simply participating in the V International Congress on Risks.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, we encourage you to stimulate your doctoral and master’s students to also present communications or, if not, to mobilize colleagues from your Institution, School, Department, Laboratory or Research group, to participate, and, lastly, we thank you in advance for sharing this Congress with all those who may be interested in participating. Please note that there are special prices for group registrations (more than 3 participants).

The deadline for submitting abstracts will end on January 15, 2020. For bonus registrations, two deadlines are foreseen: The first, with a larger bonus, ends on March 15, 2020, and the second ends on April 31, 2020.

Authors may turn the communications into articles and submit them for publication to the Territorium – International Journal of Risks. The final decision on the publication will depend on the number and characteristics of the contributions that will be received.
